Deluge is a series of 5-hour videos. Recorded in the winter of 2020 at the Lachine Rapids in Montreal, this project presents different portraits of water in slow motion. With Deluge, we aim to present viewers with a meditative experience in which waves become abstract and move with an enveloping slowness. This contemplative work is intended to create a simple but substantial connection with the riverine environment that surrounds us.
At the technical level, footage was recorded at 120 frames per second, slowed down to one-quarter speed, and then processed using AI-based temporal interpolation sofware to further slow the image. The result shows this waterway in a new light, allowing the spectator to gradually discover all of its visual facets.
